The Chakras relate to different physical and emotional aspects of ourselves and when they are out of balance we can experience stress, aches, and pains as signals of the imbalance. Each class will focus on different Chakras to help bring the body, mind, and spirit to alignment. The classes include variations of Sun Salutations and uplifting Kundalini Yoga exercises and meditations to bring you a place of wholeness. This is a fun and flowing class for all levels.

YIN YOGA PRIMER
w/ Richard Gartner

Sunday, September 12th 2010
5:30-7:30 p.m.

Complementing our on-going Yin Yoga classes, we present a special 2 hour event with guest instructor Richard Gartner:

Yin Yoga is revolutionary in its quiet stillness. As opposed to most styles of yoga, which deal with muscle flexibility and activity, a Yin style focuses on stimulating the “chi” in passive connective tissues like ligaments and bones. In particular, a Yin yoga practice reverses the effects of aging on the shoulders, spine and hips. Richard will present Yin Yoga theory as it relates to Yoga philosophy, the Chinese meridian system, meditation practice and our own anatomy. He will then guide you through a quiet Yin practice. The workshop will conclude with breathing practices to assist in harvesting our awareness.

Ever find yourself rocking out to music in your car? Or start dancing up a storm in your room to your favorite song? Then you understand the powerful nature of music and how it unleashes all different forms of movement in your body. Here’s your chance to transform those movements in a safe and sacred place combining yoga postures, breathwork, free-form movement, and creative play all wrapped into one exhilarating class - YogaRhythmics®.

It has long been studied that music awakens and revives our chakras - the 7 energy centers in our bodies. Each one is responsible for a particular part of our emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Through a structured sequence of natural movement patterns the principles of yoga come alive - love, acceptance, compassion, contentment, and integrity are at the heart of YogaRhythmics®.

Join us as we take you on a musical and movement journey through your chakras to energize and align these energy centers. You will leave feeling refreshed - awakening your inner child at times - with a big smile on your face. No dance experience required - just a willingness to move and BE MOVED!

w/ Kendell Romanelli & Ami Sciulli

Friday, September 24th 2010
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Mantra: OM NAMO BHAGAVATE VASUDEVAYA
This mantra invokes trust in a higher good - "Thy will be done, not mine." As we tap into the abundance of the fall season, this mantra helps us to feel secure and that we already have everything we need. We will use Krishna Das' version.

Friday, October 22nd 2010
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Mantra: OM NAMO NARAYANAYA
In this beautiful month of October with fall in it's fullest glory, we will honor our own glory. It is said that chanting this mantra will bring you peace, fulfillment, and self-realization. It allows you know the grace of the divine within you. We will use Deva Premal's version from her album Love Is Space.

Friday, November 26th 2010
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Mantra: LOKAH SAMASTA SUKHINO BHAVANTU
This beautiful mantra means "May all beings find peace and happiness." A perfect blessing for the Thanksgiving weekend as we come together in gratitude and move into the holiday season of peace and giving. We will use Donna De Lory's version from her album Sanctuary.

These workshops are designed for mantra meditation. It is not call and response kirtan, but rather a gathering of voices that will raise the level of consciousness of the group. Each workshop will begin with a brief discussion on the pronunciation and meaning of the mantra being chanted followed by a few gentle exercises to warm the body and prepare it for sitting. Please feel free to bring personal meditation pillows, but studio props will be available (including chairs for those who would prefer not to sit on the floor). We will chant the mantra for 31 minutes. When we chant for 31 minutes the meditation begins to affect your whole mind, your aura, and all your body's internal organs. After chanting we will meditate on the vibrations we created for seven minutes and close with a long deep relaxation with the healing sounds of the crystal bowls.

YIN YOGA
w/ Valerie Antonette

Sunday, September 26th 2010
Sunday, October 10th 2010 - *LIVE MUSIC W/ DIDGERIDOO (special pricing)*
Sunday, October 24th 2010
Sunday, November 7th2010
Sunday, November 21st 2010
5:30-7 p.m.

Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues (ligaments, bones, and joints) of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine through relaxation and meditation in seated postures. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat and the lengthening/contracting of our muscles. Because yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised, you may realize after taking a Yin Yoga class that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.

While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, a Yin Yoga practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration that the poses are held - anywhere from one to twenty minutes! The time spent in the postures is designed to nourish the natural range of motion of the joints. A Yin Yoga practice invites you to go deeper into yourself and challenges you to stay in the experience. This practice is also an excellent way to help you improve your comfort in seated meditation.

SUN SALUTATION WORKSHOP
Surya Namaskara: An Exploration into Sun Salutations

w/ Anna Gilbert

Saturday, October 2nd 2010
1:30-3:30 p.m.

Have you ever wondered WHY we practice Sun Salutations? Where did they originate and why are there so many variations of the traditional sequence? Why is Ardha Uttanasana sometimes referred to as 'Prepare Pose'? What is it that we are preparing for? Perhaps you've wondered about a particular asana or transition. For example: should we jump back into plank or land in Chaturanga Dandasana, and how do we practice this movement safely and mindfully? How do we learn to jump or step back up to our hands, when it seems an impossible distance to travel?

Join us as we demystify Sun Salutations by answering these questions and more. We will explore the symbolic origins of Surya Namaskara, delve into the vital link between our breath and movement, and break down the components and transitions involved in this classic sequence. This workshop will provide answers to your questions, enrich your understanding of Surya Namaskara, and infuse your salutes with precision, receptivity, and joy!

YIN YOGA WITH DIDGERIDOO
w/ Valerie Antonette & Joseph Carringer

Sunday, October 10th 2010
5:30-7 p.m.

Experience the Healing Sounds of Didgeridoo within a Yin Yoga class!

In this class, students will hold each Yin Yoga posture for about 7 minutes giving Joseph time to play the didgeridoo around each participant - assisting them to a meditative state and inviting them to settle into the asana more deeply with the natural form of ultra sound that the didgeridoo produces.

Suitable for most levels of students, Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues (ligaments, bones, and joints) of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine through relaxation and meditation in seated postures. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat and the lengthening/contracting of our muscles. The time spent in the postures is designed to nourish the natural range of motion of the joints. A Yin Yoga practice invites you to go deeper into yourself and challenges you to stay in the experience. This practice is also an excellent way to help you improve your comfort in seated meditation.

The didgeridoo is an ancient musical instrument and powerful tool that can help lift an individual's vibration back to a less chaotic and natural rhythm. It does this by producing a broad range of harmonics in an ancient and universal tone. Harmonic therapy has been used to aid in meditation and relaxation, acting as a tuning fork for your body's natural resonant vibration on a cellular level. Reported effects from treatments range from relief of muscle pain and stress, to a greater sense of clarity and heightened energy flow along reopened chakra points.

Joseph Carringer has been playing an Australian Aboriginal didgeridoo for over a decade using it as a deep meditative tool in his personal shamanic journey as well as a therapeutic instrument for his clients. Joseph also incorporates a unique combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy, Ayurvedic Chakra philosophy and traditional Shamanic healing techniques into his sound therapy practice. It is his goal to help people realign their bodies' natural rhythms on a cellular level through sound therapy. Visit his website at

Sharing yoga with a partner can help to bring your practice to a new level as you serve each other as anchors, mirrors and sounding blocks. The sequences in the workshop will revolve around the postures most commonly associated with Hatha Yoga and basic breath work - moving towards the exploration of opening the front of the spine, stretching tense muscles, and relaxing body and mind.
